Bush, Obama, & Ghosts of Hate

Hat tip by The Achoress

“The dogmas of the quiet past are inadequate to the stormy present. The occasion is piled high with difficulty, and we must rise with the occasion. As our case is new, so we must think anew, and act anew. We must disenthrall ourselves, and then we shall save our country.” Lincoln’s Second Annual Message to Congress, December 1, 1862.

I would love nothing better than to be able to stop writing about “left” and “right.” I wish we had a better vocabulary to describe our distinctions, because these words are limiting and off-putting. I am determined, with the merciful conclusion of this abusively long election season, to work diligently at spending less time entertaining these distinctions. But for today, I think it is only fair to note a very important and glaring difference between “left and right” – and in so doing – consider how we may, finally, stop needing to indulge in what is tedious.

Victor Davis Hanson
says Let’s not imitate the left in our opposition. I agree.

It has been wonderful – really beyond wonderful – to consider how differently most of the right has reacted to their defeat than the left did in 2000 and 2004. In the two previous elections, the left responded by calling the other half of the country “stupid,” “morons,” and “Nazis” – Jane Smiley called them “unteachably ignorant” – they indulged in high drama, sniffling “apologies” to the globe, and denunciations of their fellow countrymen as “lying between repugnant and reptile in the dictionary.”

And oh, yeah (eyeroll) George W. Bush was not “their” president.

While you’ll see a few disgruntled extremists on the right say foolish, even ignorant things – and many throwing daggers at the sickening double-standards of the press – they’re not indulging in that sort of dehumanizing (and very adolescent) hate of their fellow countrymen or the president-elect. The reports they’re filing read very differently than those following the Bush wins. They read as grown-up, tolerant, open-minded discourses, not tantrums. There is a willingness to be hopeful, even in defeat.

And there is a determined respectfulness being offered to the winners – people who could not manage maturity and respectfulness in their defeat and who, sadly, are not always managing it in their victory, either.

I’m hopeful that the left – if it takes the time to actually condescend to notice how well it is being treated by the vanquished – might consider that self-indulgent defamation is the lesser way; that such a consideration may inspire introspection, and perhaps the smallest bit of regret for some of their appalling excesses toward the right and toward the American President who did not return hate in-kind.

I’m hopeful. I’m an optimist. I KNOW that the folks on the right – for all of their faults, and both sides certainly have faults – want America to be successful and strong and exceptional and free. I’m hopeful that hugely empowered left will discover that – beyond the feel-goodism of “free social programs” which are never free –they actually, really do want all of those things, too. That they’ll look back on the last 8 years and realize, finally, that their enemy was never George W. Bush. Bush, the guy who never dehumanized them, was only trying serve those corny ideals.

And then, miraculously, we may actually have unity.

Some similar thinking from my girl crush, Donna Brazile:

“The one mistake that we continue to make is that we label people. We say you’re conservatives, liberal, progressive, right wing, left wing. I think people just want to spend one day being Americans. They want to come together around a common purpose, common values.”

I wondered the other day if the catharsis of this election might open up “a vein of generosity” (or at least decency) from the left as concerns President Bush. I have not seen it yet, but I’m going to be optimistic and keep looking.

But maybe it’s enough just to see a little appreciation from the right, to start. Like this, for instance:

I link, therefore, I Err has a little mini-round-up of appreciation for George W. Bush. You’ll want to read it all.

From Alppuccino at Protein Wisdom:

At 10:40, President Bush will keep his streak alive by telling everyone how much he loves America. Just as he always has. And he’ll show everyone how much he loves America by preparing Obama as best he can for the next 4 years.

Read it all; it’s doubtful that Obama’s team will come into the White House finding O’s missing from their keyboards, any rude messages greeting them. And that is how it should be in America, a respectful transition.

Michael Gerson:

Many liberals refuse to concede Bush’s humanity, much less his achievements.

But that humanity is precisely what I will remember. I have seen President Bush show more loyalty than he has been given, more generosity than he has received. I have seen his buoyancy under the weight of malice and his forgiveness of faithless friends. Again and again, I have seen the natural tug of his pride swiftly overcome by a deeper decency — a decency that is privately engaging and publicly consequential.

[In 2005]…the White House senior staff overwhelmingly opposed a new initiative to fight malaria in Africa for reasons of cost and ideology…In the crucial policy meeting, one person supported it: the president of the United States, shutting off debate with a moral certitude that others have criticized. I saw how this moral framework led him to an immediate identification with the dying African child, the Chinese dissident, the Sudanese former slave, the Burmese women’s advocate. It is one reason I will never be cynical about government — or about President Bush.

Jeffery Scott Shapiro:

[The treatment of President Bush] from this country is nothing less than a disgrace. The attacks launched against him have been cruel and slanderous, proving to the world what little character and resolve we have…Our failure to stand by the one person who continued to stand by us has not gone unnoticed by our enemies. It has shown to the world how disloyal we can be when our president needed loyalty — a shameful display of arrogance and weakness that will haunt this nation long after Mr. Bush has left the White House.

Until we fix, within ourselves, our enthrallment with hate for others, simply because they hold differing views, we’ll never pull it together. In 2006 we watched a right-wing blogger be called less than human by a left-wing reader. We’ve seen President Bush being referred to as “the chimp” and “the monkey” by the wits who insisted that ideology trumped having a decent respect for another’s humanity. I wrote about that a little here:

Thus, George W. Bush is “Chimpy McHitler.” Hillary Clinton is “a pig in a pantsuit.” Barack Obama is “O-Bambi.” Cindy McCain, who has exhibited some courage and laudable compassion in her life, is reduced to a “pill-popping beer-frau,” and so forth. From there it is smooth sailing down an ever-descending river of hatred, until we are incapable of seeing anything good in the “other,” both because we have willfully hardened our hearts, and because our hate — especially when it is supported by a group of like minds — feels safe and inviolable.

With that in mind, you’ll want to read this excellent piece over at Conversion Diary, wherein Jenifer ponders pictures from a Nazi-era photo album and wonders, how such common-variety people managed to support and enable such profound evil.

One thing that stands out in all these examples is that the victims of the widespread evil were categorized as something less than human…not only that innocent people were killed or enslaved, but that their humanity was taken away by the societies around them…So here is the advice I would offer to my children, and to my children’s children:

Every decade or so, take a look around the society in which you live, and ask yourself if there is any group of human beings who are seen as something less than human. A big tipoff is if dehumanizing words — terms other than “man,” “woman,” “child,” “baby,” or “person” — are used to describe any category of people.

And if you ever see that going on, you might be in the midst of something gravely evil.

Dehumanizing people begins with baby-steps like name-calling, or the sort of intellectual dishonesty that delights in deliberately twisting the meaning of others in negative and misrepresentative ways. Those are the little gateways to the great evils that come once you’ve managed to thoroughly de-humanize others.

We’ve had 8 years – I’d say 12, really – of people demonizing and dehumanizing others, from both sides, and it is not getting us anyplace good. I believe that the response of most of the right to Obama’s victory is a step toward changing that. But the left has to do their part, too.

Pope Benedict XVI said, “those who hope live differently.” The election of Barack Obama was borne on this word, “Hope.”

If the people who voted for “hope” were sincere, then let them begin, today, to embrace itand to live differently – without the kneejerk move to hate “the other side.” The right, responding levelly to their defeat, has offered the opening. Will the left take it?

UPDATE: Seems some will. Here is mostly accurate, and appreciated praise from a surprising quarter:

Would America have elected Barack Obama if white Americans had not gotten accustomed to seeing (in succession) two African-American Secretaries of State? I don’t think so. Before Bush, African-Americans were appointed to some good posts but not to our #1 foreign policy job. Two African Americans (one with a pretty odd first name) served as America’s face to the world. That eased Obama’s way. It is not Tiger Woods in whose footsteps Obama is walking it’s Rice and Powell….Fact is, “W” never gave any evidence of holding racist attitudes…even just the slur the occasionally slips out of the mouth of even our most liberal leaders.

Same with Arabs and Muslims…Bush, after 9/11, never resorted to anti-Arab or Muslim stereotypes. He drew distinctions between terrorists and Arabs…Had he not done these things, Arabs and Muslims might have experienced not just hate crimes but pogroms.

Meanwhile, from Grand Rants:

Here is a man who is regularly compared to Hitler in casual conversation in Leftist circles high and low. His honor has been regularly impugned, his intelligence (or, as the press loves to put it, his “intellectual curiousity”) constantly demeaned, his verbal stumblings consistently mocked, and his accomplishments in office discounted or ignored. He is a man who kept his head down and did his job, despite the slings and arrows hurled at him by fortune made all the more outrageous by nearly the entire Democratic party.

I for one, would like to say thank you to Pres. Bush. For keeping us safe. For watching out for us. For persevering in spite of all the spite. I believe history will ultimately judge you as one of America’s best presidents, and I believe you deserve that judgement.

H/T to Opinionated Catholic, who writes:

The throwing under the bus of the President by even his friends and indeed the base has been shocking to me. Many groups will find out soon enough how they took Bush’s support and advocacy for them for granted, Catholics, especially.

Meanwhile, Jules Crittenden is beginning to enjoy Omerica, Quin Hillyer is saying America is over, kaput, finished, Evan Thomas suddenly finds Obama “slightly creepy” and when you refuse to release medical records, and the press doesn’t care…conjecture begins about your mental health.

I like to have my morning coffee & after a bit of quiet time, I like to visit the Achoress and meditate a bit on her wisdom. I especially like her views on Bush. I know we have all been very disappointed with some of his views. I certainly have. You do have to hand it to the Man. He was our President and he kept us safe on his watch. I believe as the Achoress that he has been unfairly attacked by too many. It is one thing to disagree but quite another to have such hate. I know that many of you are as I, praying for our new President even though we vehemently disagree and will work diligently to keep him and those in Washington accountable. It will not always be flattering. Probably not. At the same time you won’ t see us wearing t-shirts with profanity on them and being vulgar like we have witnessed with both him and Sarah Palin. You don’t see us going on his supporters blogs and leaving vile messages and attacking their person.

Now while I agree with most of her gems of wisdom. I continue to  think we need to stay on our toes, know what is going on, report it and work like mad, exercise our rights..organize to defeat BS. LOL! Continue to call, write, fax and email as if we were gonna die if we do not. Yes, that is what we need. Informed citizens who will do more than just whine. Who will actually bug their reps when votes are needed until they think they are going deaf with our noise. We did it with the bailout. We did it with the borders. We did it with drilling for oil. Yes, I know, some of that will have to be done again. But remember who and what you are doing it for. LIBERTY! yOUR BILL OF RIGHTS! YOUR CONSTITUTION. If we fail, we can look our children or grandchildren in their eyes and say ‘we tried and tried hard until the fat lady sang and then some’ Nuff said.

Hillary supporters fighting with anti obama ad..

Democrats  want Obama over Hillary, but some of Hillarys supporters still have on their boxing gloves…Really it would make a good GOP video.

Hillary’s friends in high places, former political supporters,& celebs  have hung her out to dry. Howard Dean is biting at the bit, why won’t that woman quit?  Sorry Dean, she wants to be like the Simpson jury…don’t want to acquit because then they must have quit.. No..

Hillary and her supporters will put on a good face and present a united front..but clinton supporters are wounded with the big guys & politics as usual supporting the Junior Senator with limited electoral experience..when was he first elected to political office? I believe it was 2004..

Obama has been compared to John Kennedy. JFK had been in office many years and had lots of experience under his belt…can’t compare him there. Of course, Don’t believe a group anything like Hamas woud have dared endorse Kennedy either.

Of course, it was another time.. a time before the radical 60’s came into being..where some of us witnessed bra burning, free sex, woodstock and the beginnings of Earth Day…lots of drugs, immorality was hot…divorce rate jumped to 50% between 1958 and the 70″s..fatherless homes, astronomical # of single moms trying to to raise children while she worked for 1/2 of their former income…Heck it was the beginning of Freedom..freedom from being chained in the prison of marriage .Join the Weathermen, SLS or SDS…ah,,it was the good times…Make Love not War..freedom from many rules, freedom from authority, freedom to burn old glory..freedom to sleep around with whoever you wanted whenever you wanted and just do what you want to do..don’t need any responsibility. pregnant? sorry about your luck…Heck it was the Beatles, Janis Joplin, Jimi Hendrix, a time of change and the Age of Aquarius..

WE HAVE COME A LONG WAY BABY !

And now we eat the fruit Aquarius bore…anyway, that’s my opinion and I’m sticking to it.

The New Constitution of Americas Union

The new Constitution of Americas Union
  by Henry Lamb

Source:NewsByUs

When President Bush and his CANAMEX counterparts assemble in New Orleans April 21 for the 4th Annual Summit of the Americas, they will undoubtedly discuss a growing problem: how to continue denying that they are building a North American Union.
Despite the official denials, the snickering and the ridicule, the process continues.  The President, himself, may be just a pawn in a much bigger game being played by geo-political forces that also do not exist – officially.

Please click on the links below to see proposed Constitution and all the big ole plans they have for us..

These forces have created Constitution for Americas Union.  The bigger game includes six such “unions”, all of which are to function under a “reformed” United Nations.  It is important to note that among all the web sites linked to this Constitution for Americas’ Union, it is impossible to identify the individuals, or the organizations that are responsible for the initiative.  There is only a postal address in Sidney, Australia.

It is extremely significant, however, that several recognizable non-government organizations are identified as “dedicated to helping.” It should come as no surprise that The Clinton Global Initiativeis among these NGOs.  The Clintons have long been advocates of global governance.

Since there is no effort to create a North American Union, or global governance, according to Mr. Bush and many leading pundits, there could not possibly be an official blueprint for global governance produced by the U.N.-funded Commission on Global Governance in 1995.  Nor is there an official U.N. Millennium Declaration that describes – in flowery U.N. ambiguity – the goals of global governance.

It is clear why illegals want open borders…

Thanks to www.mmlv.us/patton.html for image above..warning: language not for the faint of heart.

It is now equally clear why the Elite and Corporate want Open Borders..Follow the Money Honey & while you are at it follow the Power baby! Why, we can all be one big happy ‘one world’ with the dough being raked in at the expense of our Sovereignty.

NORTH AMERICA CONTINENT JOINT-MILITARY IS BORN

North American Union?

PREMEDITATED MERGER Inside the hush-hush North American Union confab

Even though U.S. officials pretend they do not exist, these documents are important because they pave the way for the Constitution of the Americas, and the other five global “unions.” They all advocate the same end goal: global governance.  The North American Union is but one, extremely important, step toward this ultimate goal.

The Constitution for Americas’ Union is the most explicit statement of goals yet made public. It is so extreme that a casual reading would likely result in immediate dismissal by Americans who still have some knowledge and appreciation of the U.S. Constitution. Who, in his right mind, would support a document that created a “Supreme Council,” of selected individuals to advise the “Secretary General” of the Americas

This proposed constitution bestows the rights, not only to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness, but also the right to adequate housing, a job, food, and good health.  It would abolish the concept of taxation, and impose, instead, a system of voluntary giving determined by the wealth and productivity of each individual.  Those who produce wealth would “give” more than those who do not.  Those who do not produce wealth have a government-bestowed “right” to receive housing, food, and living expenses provided “voluntarily” by those who do produce wealth.  To insure that the “voluntary” gifts are adequate, the constitution authorizes the government to impose fees for the services it renders, which may be applied selectively to those who “have”, and not applied to those who “have not”.

The system of governance created by this proposed constitution could not possibly be communism, because the government is advised by a “Supreme Council,” not a “Supreme Soviet.” Moreover, its supreme authority is a “Secretary- General,” after the fashion of the benevolent United Nations, not by a “President.”

Each “system” of government would have a “Supreme Director” of: planning; building and construction; culture and entertainment; education; employment; energy; finance; fitness and health; eco systems; justice; and many, many more.  Each “Supreme Director” would be appointed by the Secretary-General, and would have “sole authority” over all aspects of his domain.

Thanks to Woman Honor thyself  for this photo.

This proposed constitution is a wish list for the utopian one-world government pursued by some for more than a century.  While officials scoff at such notions, the world continues to move closer and closer to the procedures and belief systems espoused by these advocates.  While there may be no “official” connections between this proposed Constitution of Americas Union and the official Security and Prosperity Partnership, many of the goals are the same.

Could we get inside the various working groups, and the various NGOs that support these goals, it would not be at all surprising to learn that many of the individuals are participants in both.  In fact, where discoveries have been made through Freedom of Information investigations, NGOs such as the Council on Foreign Relations, and their individual members, do participate in the working groups and processes of the SPP.

Whether “official” or not, the SPP is moving toward a North American Union that meets many of the objectives of the Constitution of Americas Union.  Mr. Bush, and others, can deny, deny, deny.  All their bluster and ridicule combined cannot erase the clear facts that exist for all to see.  This process will continue to march forward unless we all rise up to stop it.

UPDATE: My thoughts: All we need now is economic collapse..God Forbid…pray not..but would that not be a way to implement the above speedily?

Good news: US to spend $23 million on border fence

Found this to be very newsworthy

Item: The US government is forking over $23 million to help build the border fence and calling in the Army Corps of Engineers to assist with construction.Bad news: The money is going to build the border fence in… Egypt.

Be sure and read Michelle’s other immigration posts.
Angies DEEEEEEPPPPPPP Thoughts………..or not so deep thoughts. Sarcasm perhaps?
Some things I could not help thinking :
We will have a border eventually (because of a lot of Americans making noise with their representatives) with a lot of it cameras, etc: Meanwhile with the dragging of their feet, probably millions more here illegally.
Since we owe China so much, could it be that our Social Security and or higher taxes will probably cover it, if not print more money..
Wonder if there is some group  hollering about the ecology? ya know it might interfere with somethings as it does here?
Other Deep Thoughts
Egypt is going love us! NOT!
Mexico loves us for building them a Southern border fence! NOT!
American citizens loved because the people want a fence? NOT!
Israel loved because of their fence! NOT!
Here’s some positives folks:
Our leaders like to spend our money where we are hated! Yep!
Nancy P. AND George B. loves it, after all, give em money send a team of Corp Engineers over there and everywhere…
Our candidates Obama, Hillary and Juan McCain love it
America will have cheap labor overflowing..
Americans will have No Effective Timely Border fence
Americans don’t need any say in government spending
Americans way of life bankrupt!
On to globilization and 2 classes, the have’s and have nots!
Excuse me as I wonder if I will need another job to cover the future taxes?

Let’s face it,
The great leaders of America will only build a fence here because of our insistence. They (bar none) will still implement the guest worker program as they are now calling it.. They are in effect saying “we want their cheap labor”. We want Americans to wake up and realize $$$$ and globilization are more important than quality of life here.
Does anyone really think they care about the illegals? It’s all about the money honey! Now they have no problem spending our money to make ‘other countries’ safer. That hints of a double standard. America last, the rest of the world’s needs must be met..
Be watching, There will soon be a post about food shortage coming…wonder why?
Welcome to the New World Order!

NORTH AMERICA CONTINENT JOINT-MILITARY IS BORN

I warned you I get out of line from time to time. Read with caution, you may not like it!

Well, we have all heard about the proposed North American Alliance proposal where we three countries Canada, US and Mexico team up to be imitators of the EU. Here is the beginning. Wonder how long before our economy needs a boost and it will be so much better to start over and have Amero’s OR Canamero’s for our monies. Could this be another reason we have had such a sloooowwwww wait on border security? Wonder when our countries first political prisoners from the border patrol will be released from prison?

You know, those guys that were trying to do their job  and were promptly imprisoned? How long before we all have to be reeducated in some camp for correct thinking? See this link from pynkmyst  …on the topic of interment camps…

http://www.freedomfiles.org/war/fema.htm

The way I see it, it is probably coming in the not too distant future. Shame on me for daring to suggest such a thing! Shame on me that I would dare protest the situation with our border patrol guards being in prison as our first political prisoners. Just shame on me period!

Why has this not been disclosed on our great Media or was it a blip that I somehow missed?

Why was Congress compliant with this? No wonder you would like to shut the bloggers down! See my post below on the FBI coming after us.

Why are the American and Canadian people shut out from any information on this subject? You have a lot to answer for as far as I am concerned. What about ‘WE THE PEOPLE’?

Congress and Media, you just keep on investigating steroid use by sports figures, keep us enthralled with the ‘he said she said’ political mumbo jumbo, we don’t want to know the REAL ISSUES

and what is at stake in this next election.Keep us sheep in the dark, while you slowly dismantle all that has been fought for since our American Revolution. Now there was a generation that protested, Whoo Hoo!

Analysis of the immigration portion of President Bush’s 2008 State of the Union address

Analysis of the immigration portion of President Bush’s 2008 State of the Union address:

“The other pressing challenge is immigration. America needs to secure our borders. And, with your help, my administration is taking steps to do so. We’re increasing worksite enforcement, deploying fences and advanced technologies to stop illegal crossings.
It’s not difficult to improve upon your administration’s pathetic record on worksite enforcement. During Fiscal Year 2002, the first full fiscal year of your term, there were only 25 criminal and 485 administrative worksite enforcement arrests. Last fiscal year, these numbers increased to 863 criminal and 4,077 administrative arrests. (And for the record, the vast majority of the illegal aliens who were “administratively” arrested were released back into our communities because they did not meet your administration’s guidelines for removal. But more on that in the next section.) By way of comparison, in Fiscal Year 1998, there were 7,788 worksite investigations that resulted in 642 warnings, 1,023 notices of intent to fine, 535 final orders, and 17,552 arrests. (Your administration stopped providing these detailed statistics, undoubtedly because of its dismal performance.) With a minimum of eight million illegal aliens working in this country, it will require much more than token efforts to discourage employers from hiring them.

Fences, cameras, radars and other advanced technologies do not stop illegal crossings. Fences merely slow people down by perhaps a minute or two, and technology only detects intrusions, but is incapable of capturing anything. If there are insufficient numbers of Border Patrol agents in place to respond, the people and contraband that are detected will not be apprehended. Although the Border Patrol catches about one million people every year trying to sneak across the border, front-line agents estimate that two to three times that number slip by them.

“We’ve effectively ended the policy of “catch and release” at the border.”

Unfortunately, “catch and release” is alive and well in the interior of the United States where most of the illegal aliens reside. In light of the fact that your administration started the practice of “catch and release” at the border, you don’t get any credit for ending an insane policy that tripled the number of illegal aliens entering the United States from all countries except Mexico.

“And by the end of this year, we will have doubled the number of Border Patrol agents.”

If you hadn’t waited until the waning days of your term to start hiring Border Patrol agents, you could have tripled or even quadrupled the size of the Border Patrol. Remember your Fiscal Year 2005 budget request that sought to decrease the size of the Border Patrol? How about your Fiscal Year 2006 budget request that only sought an increase of 210 Border Patrol agents despite the requirement of the Intelligence Reform and Terrorism Prevention Act of 2004 to hire 2,000 agents every year for the next five years? The American people haven’t forgotten.

“Yet we also need to acknowledge that we will never fully secure our border until we create a lawful way for foreign workers to come here and support our economy. This will take pressure off the border and allow law enforcement to concentrate on those who mean us harm.”

Don’t you mean “support businesses that want cheap, exploitable labor?” At a time of high unemployment and underemployment, the last thing our economy needs is more unskilled laborers to place additional burdens on a social infrastructure that is already sagging under the weight of uncontrolled illegal immigration. You don’t explain how our economy can create even a fraction of the jobs necessary to satisfy the desire of billions of impoverished people throughout the world who want to work and live in America. Your so-called solution makes about as much sense as suggesting that the way to stop bank robberies is to print more money.

“We must also find a sensible and humane way to deal with people here illegally. Illegal immigration is complicated, but it can be resolved, and it must be resolved in a way that upholds both our laws and our highest ideals.”

Ah, now we get to the bottom line. In exchange for your administration’s insincere and woefully inadequate enforcement efforts, you want another massive amnesty. It didn’t work in 1986, when there were only two to three million illegal aliens living in the United States. Instead of slowing the rate of illegal immigration, it exacerbated the problem, fueling a five-fold increase in illegal immigration. The American people spoke loud and clear on this issue last year. What part of “no” don’t you understand?

The Oath of Allegiance for Naturalized Citizens

“I hereby declare, on oath, that I absolutely and entirely renounce and abjure all allegiance and fidelity to any foreign prince, potentate, state, or sovereignty of whom or which I have heretofore been a subject or citizen; that I will support and defend the Constitution and laws of the United States of America against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; that I will bear arms on behalf of the United States when required by the law; that I will perform noncombatant service in the Armed Forces of the United States when required by the law; that I will perform work of national importance under civilian direction when required by the law; and that I take this obligation freely without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion; so help me God.”

. . . The Mexican government recently provided dual nationality to its citizens who naturalize in the United States. No longer looked upon by their countrymen with contempt, those who emigrate (and sneak in) to the United States are seen by Mexico as advocates for its presumed territorial claims to the American Southwest. Mass immigration, while acting as an overpopulation safety valve for Mexico, simultaneously strengthens Mexico’s political presence inside the United States. Mexican dual nationality serves to retain the allegiance of its citizens who become United States citizens, and to discourage assimilation – in spite of the oath of allegiance they take to America.

Unconstrained illegal immigration and disregard for the rule of law are not conducive toward maintaining US sovereignty. Special corporate and political interests want all the cheap foreign labor they can get. Misinterpreting the 14th Amendment and granting automatic birthright citizenship to children of illegal aliens is but one aspect of the dismantling of America.

In April, 2005, President Bush signed the Security Prosperity Partnership with Canada and Mexico, with the stated objective of ensuring the free movement of goods and people across the US border. This treaty, never ratified by Congress, is a significant step towards the North American Union where a sovereign United States will be merely a memory. . .

Other Countries

The United Kingdom, for example, formerly allowed Birthright citizenship. In 1981, because of immigration pressures, they restricted it to now require that one parent be a legal resident. In France birthright citizenship has been changed – now children between the ages of 16 and 22 of illegal alien parents must actively seek French citizenship.

It should be noted that on June 11, 2004 Irish voters voted in a national referendum to end automatic citizenship for any child born in Ireland regardless of the parents’ residence status. Ireland was the last member of the European Union to allow pregnant foreigners to gain residence and welfare benefits as a result of birth in the country. (Seattle Post Intelligencer, June 13, 2004.)

Cost

The Urban Institute estimates the cost of educating illegal alien children in the nation’s [USA] seven states with the highest concentration of illegal aliens was $3.1 billion in 1993 (which, with the growth of their population to 1.3 million, would be more like $5 billion in 2000). This estimate does not take into account the additional costs of bilingual education or other special educational needs.

FAIR estimates there are currently between 287,000 and 363,000 children born to illegal aliens each year. This figure is based on the crude birth rate of the total foreign-born population (33 births per 1000) and official estimates of the size of the illegal alien population – between 8.7 and 11 million. It should be noted that the Bear Stearns investment firm and others have concluded that the actual number of illegal aliens in the United States could be as high as 20 million.2,3 Using this higher number would roughly double FAIR’s estimate to approximately 574,000 to 726,000 children born to illegal aliens each year!

As of 2001, the cost of having a baby in the U.S. ranged from $6,000 to $8,000 for a normal delivery and $10,000 to $12,000 for a cesarean birth (to as much as $14,000 in certain parts of the country).10 Assuming that an average birth in the year 2007 now costs $8,000, the total cost for 363,000 anchor babies would be approximately $3 billion. Assuming the more realistic number of 726,000 anchor babies, the total cost would be nearly $6 billion. American taxpayers pay a substantial part of this cost.

In 1994, California paid for 74,987 deliveries to illegal alien mothers, at a total cost of $215.2 million (an average of $2,842 per delivery). Illegal alien mothers accounted for 36 percent of all Medi-Cal funded births in California that year.1 A survey conducted under the auspices of the University of California, found that of new Hispanic mothers in California border hospitals, 15 percent had crossed the border specifically to give birth. Two-thirds of births in Los Angeles County hospitals are to illegal alien mothers who are in the U.S. in violation of our existing immigration laws.

Illegal aliens are not eligible for welfare benefits, but their citizen children qualify for Aid to Families with Dependent Children (AFDC) and other benefits granted to US citizens. Based on data collected in California for AFDC’s “children only” cases, the California Department of Social Services estimated that in fiscal 1994-1995, 193,800 children of illegal aliens received welfare, costing $553 million.

 Illegals determined to colonize

By not addressing this abuse of the Fourteenth Amendment and enforcing immigration law, the funds that state and local governments must provide to anchor babies amounts to a virtual tax on U.S. citizens to subsidize illegal aliens.

Rule of Law

By deliberately not addressing this loophole, Congress in effect rewards law-breakers and punishes those who have chosen to follow the rules and immigrate legally. . .

. . .”Ladies and gentlemen, the sanctuary cities and the people that support them are violating the laws of the United States of America. They’re violating 8 USC section 1324 and 1325, which is a felony — [it’s] a felony to aid, support, transport, shield, harbor illegal aliens,” Walsh stated.

Walsh said his analysis indicating there are 38 million illegal aliens in the U.S. was calculated using the conservative estimate of three illegal immigrants entering the U.S. for each one apprehended. According to Walsh, “In the United States, immigration is in a state of anarchy — not chaos, but anarchy.”
