The controversial PBS anchor Gwen Ifill will be the Moderator tonight at the VP debate. who is very much Mesmerized by Obama. She is the author of a new book featuring the great one that will be released on Inauguration day. Let’s look at some of the controversy swirling around her as the choice for Moderator.
During the Democratic National Convention, Ifill offered her neutral analysis before Michelle Obama’s speech on NBC News “A lot of people have never seen anything that looks like a Michelle Obama before. She’s educated, she’s beautiful, she’s tall, she tells you what she thinks and they hope that she can tell a story about Barack Obama and about herself…”
During the Republican National Convention, the PBS ombudsman fielded numerous complaints about Ifill’s coverage of Sarah Palin’s speech. Wrote Brian Meyers of Granby, Ct.:
“I was appalled by Gwen Ifill’s commentary directly following Gov. Sarah Palin’s speech. Her attitude was dismissive and the look on her face was one of disgust. Clearly, she was agitated by what most critics view as a well-delivered speech. It is quite obvious that Ms. Ifill supports Obama as she struggled to say anything redemptive about Gov. Palin’s performance. I am disappointed in Ms. Ifill’s complete disregard for journalistic objectivity.”
Like Obama, Ifill, who is black, is quick to play the race card at the first sign of criticism. In an interview with the Washington Post a few weeks ago, she carped: “[N]o one’s ever assumed a white reporter can’t cover a white candidate.”
It’s not the color of your skin, sweetie. It’s the color of your politics. Perhaps Ifill will be able to conceal it this week. But if the “stunning” “Breakthrough” she’s rooting for comes to pass on January 20, 2009, nobody will be fooled.
I saw a video of her last night, and she was clearly upset that Palins speech at the Republican convention went so well. As a true journalist she should have stepped down. If she is the one that that picks the questions to be asked. Some think she is giving those questions to the Obama camp, or at the very least asking them what questions Joe would be best at answering? Here is the fact..Whether she will or not, there will always be that question hanging..did she or did she not? It is clear that someone else should step up to the plate now to present an unquestioned unbiased debate..There shoud be no appearance of unethical behavior at this junction. She should excuse herself.
Ifill’s book? “Breakthrough: Politics and Race in the Age of Obama.” .to be released on Inauguration Day.. had the book come up before the election there would be no problem whatsoever.
If McCain wins, the book is just going to be another Obama book, or history book. Not too many sold. However if he wins, she will be a wealthy woman. Why am I suprised that this is being allowed.
Some say that Palin should start out by congratulating Gwen on her book about Obama, So everyeone will know that the night could be biased! Perhaps Ms Ifill will start out announcing it..
Don’t know about you folks, but I have never seen (as my mama used to say) such shenanigans going on in an election that are so very very blatant and obvious to most!
For the record, Jim Lear was great in the Presidential debate. Ms Ifill has said the proof will be in the pudding, so we are rooting for you Ms Ifill to be as fair and impartial as Lear. Just as fair to the one you don’t happen to care for. Palin does not need another liberal that can’t stand her. Again, the problem is the appearance of impartiality..there is a lot of money riding on this election for your book, that is.
