Obama Flip?

Here we go again. It’s all over the news, thought some might want to look at the full transcript on the Drudge report below and little green footballs take on it. Nuff said.

The Drudge Report has the transcript of Barack Obama’s speech, and it was just as weak as you thought it would be. See the Video there by clicking their link.

Amazingly, Obama is sticking with the “cherry-picking” defense.

I have already condemned, in unequivocal terms, the statements of Reverend Wright that have caused such controversy. For some, nagging questions remain. Did I know him to be an occasionally fierce critic of American domestic and foreign policy? Of course. Did I ever hear him make remarks that could be considered controversial while I sat in church? Yes. Did I strongly disagree with many of his political views? Absolutely – just as I’m sure many of you have heard remarks from your pastors, priests, or rabbis with which you strongly disagreed.

But the remarks that have caused this recent firestorm weren’t simply controversial. They weren’t simply a religious leader’s effort to speak out against perceived injustice. Instead, they expressed a profoundly distorted view of this country – a view that sees white racism as endemic, and that elevates what is wrong with America above all that we know is right with America; a view that sees the conflicts in the Middle East as rooted primarily in the actions of stalwart allies like Israel, instead of emanating from the perverse and hateful ideologies of radical Islam.

As such, Reverend Wright’s comments were not only wrong but divisive, divisive at a time when we need unity; racially charged at a time when we need to come together to solve a set of monumental problems – two wars, a terrorist threat, a falling economy, a chronic health care crisis and potentially devastating climate change; problems that are neither black or white or Latino or Asian, but rather problems that confront us all.

Given my background, my politics, and my professed values and ideals, there will no doubt be those for whom my statements of condemnation are not enough. Why associate myself with Reverend Wright in the first place, they may ask? Why not join another church? And I confess that if all that I knew of Reverend Wright were the snippets of those sermons that have run in an endless loop on the television and You Tube, or if Trinity United Church of Christ conformed to the caricatures being peddled by some commentators, there is no doubt that I would react in much the same way

But the truth is, that isn’t all that I know of the man. The man I met more than twenty years ago is a man who helped introduce me to my Christian faith, a man who spoke to me about our obligations to love one another; to care for the sick and lift up the poor. He is a man who served his country as a U.S. Marine; who has studied and lectured at some of the finest universities and seminaries in the country, and who for over thirty years led a church that serves the community by doing God’s work here on Earth – by housing the homeless, ministering to the needy, providing day care services and scholarships and prison ministries, and reaching out to those suffering from HIV/AIDS.

That would be the AIDS created and given to them by the CIA, according to Rev. Wright.

  1. He’s a liar. The videos were sold from the church’s website as “the best of J.Wright” (paraphrased, I think). He’s not a Christian ( I keep getting the “don’t judge” speech and have a post on judging as response) and he doesn’t want to lift up the poor— he wants the gov’t to do it, thru our pocketbooks. If he’s so concerned about the poor, why doesn’t he sell that mansion and feed some hungry folk? Oh, that’s right—he wants to take care of those in other countries first. The public has completely lost its way if they buy any of this—read between the lines and look at how much of this could be taken other ways or “that’s not what I said/meant”. I detest mind games and those who exploit others. JWright is no different than Sharpton or Jackson, who also claim to be “reverends”, and OB also “distanced” himself from them when it was convenient. OB and his wife (who is not as slick as he) attended and assented. I feel sorry for his daughters and all the youngsters who are caught in their web of lies and hate.
I posted an analysis of his jabbering from AmericanThinker. Also, another site I have been reading off & on for a few months with articles written by African Americans who have plenty to say about the victim mindset and how counter productive —

I almost wrecked my car trying to turn the radio off when I heard his name!!! JK, but it was about that bad.

Think I’m caught up on your posts now, Angie! ;-))

love your links, I caught your post and thought it was awesome. Then again, yours always are very informative.
I have this vision of you trying to turn off the radio and almost wrecking…so glad you did not. LOL!
    Love and hugs
    Love & Hugs!

  2. I believe Obama is a good man. I also believe I am wearing thin of his actions.

I think he is skating on some thin ice. lol!

  3. Like i said over at WHT – I read today that Obama is calling on American to get past the racial divide. Typical leftist punish everyone instead of the wrong-doers. He should be asking his pastor and to get past the racial divide, the rest of America seems to have moved on, since Obama seems to have quite a bit of support, based on the color of his skin.

He had a chance. He blew it even though he is getting praised for the speech. He blew it by not getting past it himself with his actions.. If anything, it has created more racial divide..

  4. Angie, good post. I think Obama is talking fast and furious to get himself out of this one but his approval rating is slipping by the day. I bet deep down he’d like to choke the good rev.
“AIDS created and given to them by the CIA” …heh, what a nutjob.

He may get the nomination but how can thinking people support him when he won’t denounce but calls for others to be denounced for much lesser crimes imo? Too many discrepancies between his book and his speech, not to mention expecting anyone to believe if you are that close to someone and belonged to that church that you did not know the depths of his tirades.

  5. Catch Obama on ABC programming, Barbara Walters THE VIEW, live this Friday morning, 03/28/08.

Wonder what he’ll have to say with the women of The View. Should be interesting. He’ll probably be slick as usual (gag me now please).

Wonder if Hillary and McCain will have their guest appearances at some point in time?

I watch the view when I can.. I get frustrated many times with ‘their view’. LOL! I will miss it Friday as will be at C.C. I too wonder if HC and McCain will visit.. Interesting.. you can bet your mama he will be slick and they will fawn over him.. Barf!
