Scary Side of Green

A [sometimes] Logical View of the Illogical

The Scary Side of Green

Thanks to Arclightzero -hat tip Pro Patria

“Guided by a philosophy of deep ecology, Earth First! does not accept a human-centered worldview of ‘nature for people’s sake.’ Instead, we believe that life exists for its own sake, that industrial civilization and its philosophy are anti-Earth, anti-woman and anti-liberty.”

Or so says the “mission statement” of Earth First!, the self-proclaimed radical environmental movement. While Al Gore, Leonardo DiCaprio and all of the trendy environmentalists out there are promoting “green” lifestyles and carbon credits, there is another side of the environmental movement that most people aren’t aware of.

Welcome to the world of radical environmentalism; people who truly believe that man and our civilization is a plague on this planet and people who would like to see the earth returned to the animals.

I hadn’t given these guys much more than a passing thought until Pheisty posted on a scary bunch of radicals yesterday. These people call themselves the “Voluntary Human Extinction Movement” of “VHEMT” (their tag line? “Phasing out the human race by voluntarily ceasing to breed will allow Earth’s biosphere to return to good health“). I’m not going to tread on Phesity’s toes here, as she did a great job of covering this particular looney band of radicals, but it got me thinking… How many of these people are out there? How many groups are out there advocating for the extinction (or at least reduction) of man and civilization in the name of environmentalism?

Part of what caught my attention and sparked my concern was reading some of the feedback to the VHEMT site. Things like:

“Your site just confirmed what I knew was right in my heart…I’m going to make the appointment for my husband to get a vasectomy on Monday”

and

“Thanks for creating your web site. It is a pleasure to read, and to know there is someone out there who has values so similar to my own. I’m already a Volunteer, having had a vasectomy 5 months ago, when I was 34. Now I’m trying to find a way to contribute more actively to the cause of population control (or elimination!)”

Yikes! WTF is wrong with these people? I mean, I’m all for a little conservation and clean living, but voluntary extinction of mankind in the name of the earth? You have got to be kidding me.

So that got me wondering what else the radicals have in mind, and thankfully the VHEMT site provided me with all I needed to know compliments of a “links” page.

The scariest among them was “The Church of Euthanasia” which claims:

“The Church of Euthanasia is a non-profit educational foundation devoted to restoring balance between Humans and the remaining species on Earth. We believe this can only be accomplished by a massive voluntary population reduction, which will require a leap in Human consciousness to a new species awareness.”

These guys are the real thing. They are sick and twisted and absolutely frightening. Read their FAQ and check out their pictures. It’s enough to give you goosebumps. They even provide information on the best ways to kill yourself… Not to mention their link to “emergency contraception” which they tag with “Why wait until the damn thing gets bigger when you can snuff it now? You’ve got 72 hours!”

Next on the list is “Negative Population Growth” which promotes reduced population levels. They claim that:

“NPG advocates gradually halting and then reversing our U.S. population growth so that, after an interim period of population reduction, our population can be stabilized at a level that would be sustainable indefinitely, and afford an adequate standard of living for all, in a healthy environment.”

They also claim to have over 30,000 members. Well, at least they don’t encourage suicide…

Other similar organizations are “Population Connection” and “Optimum Population Trust” both of which support reduced populations.

But even if we go more mainstream, this sort of weirdness continues. Remember the Treehugger.com guide to a green sex life? Remember that they specifically state that “of course the biggest ecological impact resulting from sex is a baby.”

But now lets get back to the Earth First! people because their view doesn’t necessarily call for suicide, but it does call for some peculiar things that sound an awful lot like a call to terrorism against our civilization. Take, for instance, this line from their website:

“It is not enough to oppose the construction of new dams and developments. It is time to free our shackled rivers and restore the land.”

Well there’s a real head scratcher. What can we infer about their intentions from that statement? Or what about this statement:

“When the law won’t fix the problem, we put our bodies on the line to stop the destruction”

Sounds pretty radical… But that is just the tip of the iceberg for Earth First!ers. What they refer to as “monkeywrenching” is actually sabotage or vandalism. As they say directly on their website:

Monkeywrenching: Ecotage, ecodefense, billboard bandits, desurveying, road reclamation, tree spiking, even fire. All of these terms describe the unlawful sabotage of industrial extraction and development equipment, as a means of striking at the Earth’s destroyers where they commit their crimes and hitting them where they feel it most—in their profit margins.

Whoa. So, in other words, it’s acceptable to do these sorts of things in the name of the earth? These people are unhinged and dangerous. Stopecoviolnce.com has compiled some quotes from so-called eco-defense radicals and eco-terrorist supporters.

I will close with a quote from Mike Roselle, co-founder of Earth First! and founder of the Ruckus Society, and let you ponder what is at stake as the green movement moves into the mainstream and more people jump on the Al Gore bandwagon only to want to take that next step forward…

“Monkey-wrenching is more than just sabotage, and you’re goddamn right, it’s revolutionary! This is jihad, pal. There are no innocent bystanders, because in these desperate hours, bystanders are not innocent…Go out and get them suckers, fill’em full of steel…”

  1. Jeez Ange,
They’re like high tech druids on coke! Interesting that they want to return the Earth to its native state. Do you suppose they include themselves in those who must be destroyed. Of course, the irony in all this is that even if they do succeed in convincing people they should stop breeding, it will only be the leftys that go for it – the third world population ever growing in our country will pay them no mind and make up for the lack of breeding among upscale, yuppies in this country.

I agree, the green movement has less to do with saving the world than it does with destroying the human race. Way back when I read an article that discusses the strategy of using the ‘green’ movement to control the masses politically – I believe it started out of Sweden. I wish to heck I could find that article. I’d love to reread it and forward it to you.

Good work in bringing this craziness to the light. It’s a shame that you had to include the links though, it will only bring them more traffic. Drat!
    Annie

Dang Annie, I was not thinking..duh..:) Surely we don’t need more crazy thinking, Seriously it is a crying shame!

  2. I’d be very happy if the lot of them would all commit mass suicide, they’d be doing all of us and the planet a favor.

“…industrial civilization and its philosophy are anti-Earth, anti-woman and anti-liberty.”

Not sure why they’re pro-women, i mean are they saying that women are less equal or more equal than men. If they are more equal shouldn’t women bear more responsibility and be “culled” first. It’s funny how they talk about liberty but are pro-abortion, i guess some are not entitled to liberty.

And if they are pro-women over men, then what about a girl baby, how does that tie in with liberty, abortion and pro-women. Perhaps like their limits on liberty, there are also limits on their support for female human beings.

Only leftists could come up with so many qualifications and contradictions.

I don’t understand the pro-women thing either. I don’t understand how anybody can think like this period.
    Just my opinion..LOL!

  3. Hey Angie, thanks for the hat tip 🙂

These people are scary to the max and there is very little that they do that makes any sense. I tried to figure out the “pro-women” thing too, and the only thing I could figure is that they were trying to appease somebody or draw more sympathy. Kind of like claiming that they are trying to protect the downtrodden earth and downtrodden women.

I think that if more people knew that this was the way of the extreme green crowd, they may rethink their claims to being “green.”

I hope so, arclightzero, you would think a really good journalist would investigate and get the message out. Perhaps ‘they have tried and the powers that be’ did not feel it was in their best interests as we have discussed in earlier posts.

  4. Hi writerchick, probably a crack rock at that. There’s a group of seriously disturbed and categorically psychotic individuals. It’s interesting when a minority of the population think a certain way outside of the mainstream. Was there any mention of these people living in a commune? Seriously. I picture them as sadistic, demonic filled, weapon wavin’, boisterous kind of folks.

  5. Scary is right. I wonder what causes such a death-wish. Their lives must be so miserable they wouldn’t want to inflict it on anyone else. That, or they believe in reincarnation and that, in the next life, they’ll come back as some sort of plant life.

Dunno, Pistol Pete, I feel bad for those that are so miserable with life, Where I have a problem is these groups seem to want to inflict not only their views but they would like to enforce it upon the whole of soceity.

  6. That is just sad…
Having my kids is one of the best things that has happened to me and my husband. They give us such great joy.

I believe our children are a gift from the Lord. Some of your best memories will be raising them.
That said, they sure can be a handful. LOL!:)
